Kathy Osterday | 1956 - 2024
Katherine Weingart Osterday, 67, of Alpharetta, GA, passed away February 8th, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones.
Kathy was born on April 26, 1956 in Patuxent River, MD to Mary Lou and Karl Weingart. She was a passionate and kind member of the community who dedicated her life to spreading joy through music and education.
She attended the Wright State University School of Music in Dayton, OH and in the summer of 1976 traveled across Europe, singing and performing with the Wright State Choir Program. She graduated with a degree in Music Education in 1977. In 1978, she met Mark Osterday and they married in 1979. They have two children, Jason and Jackie.
From 1978-1994, Kathy worked as a Music teacher at Incarnation Catholic School in Centerville, OH. She played guitar, piano, and sang during mass and other services for Incarnation Catholic Church.
An accomplished musician, Kathy was the featured soprano soloist on One Breath with Bobby Fisher and Ed Gutfreund, released in 1984. As part of the Saint Thomas Aquinas Choir, in 1994, she performed for Saint John Paul II. In 1996, she performed at the opening ceremonies for the Atlanta Summer Olympics, and in 2000, she performed at Carnegie Hall with the Michael O’Neal Singers Atlanta Choir.
After moving to Georgia, she continued her passion for music by creating her own business, Kathy Osterday Music Studio, teaching private music lessons including piano, guitar, ukulele, and voice.
Kathy was devoted to creating educational, entertaining, and inspiring music lessons for her students. She enjoyed sharing interesting facts about classical music composers and impressed the importance of music history, music theory, and finding the joy in music. She loved discovering individualized songs for each student to perform for family and friends. It was her life’s work and her greatest joy to bring the love of music to countless students throughout the years.
She is survived by her husband Mark Osterday; her children Jason Osterday and Jackie Osterday; father Karl Weingart; siblings Julie (Randy) Ross, David Weingart, Steve (Reneé) Weingart; brothers-in-law Craig (Cathy) Osterday, Paul (Linda) Osterday, Joe (Karen) Osterday; sisters-in-law Julie (Geno) Melnik and Annette (Vito) Caruso; and many nieces and nephews.
